If an accident does happen just ignore it, don’t get angry, I know it’s hard but if you ignore it but make a huge fuss of your puppy when he gets it right he will soon get the message.

When a friend of mine was starting to toilet train her dog and it wasn’t going well she was very frustrated and after the 3rd wee of the day and it was only 10.30am she shouted at her puppy, I then pointed out to her that if she was changing a babies nappy and 2 minutes later she had to change it again would she shout at it, and the answer was no.

A puppy is a baby and if he has an accident it is your fault for not keeping a close eye. Never shout at your puppy for making a mess he will have no idea why you are angry, as I said before praise him with a treat when he gets it right and he will soon learn.

When you take him outside always use the same command for him to relive himself, I always used “busy”.

When you put him to bed at night always keep the routine the same, take him outside, wait until he relieves himself, have a quick game, settle him into his sleeping quarters, cover his puppy crate or cage turn of the light and go to bed. Once he is tucked up for the night remember if he makes a fuss never go back, leave him until the morning. If you give in you won’t get a good night sleep for a long time. You have been warned.
